DISPATCHERS

Dispatching duties are currently performed by the Stephens County Public Communication Authority.  They are responsible for taking emergency and non-emergency incoming calls from citizens.  They gather sufficient information to send officers or others to the right location with the right equipment to handle the request for service.  They also may divert the call to the proper individual who can answer specific questions.  They also must monitor the police radio frequencies as well as frequencies of surrounding agencies to properly coordinate and respond to calls from the field.  In truth, dispatchers are often the lifeline to the officers and citizens alike.  They must complete certification requirements to operate the teletype machines that retrieve information from state and federal law enforcement information banks.
